Begin with your belt's composition. A braided belt can combine several materials: the braid, the buckle-end strap, the tip and the buckle each have their own role. Care should take those separate components into account.
Read the composition before choosing a care product
The leather or suede details on a belt do not necessarily describe the braid itself. A Classic model may have a polyester and elastodiene braid with a leather tip, while a Leather Stretch belt has a leather-based braid. Waxed Cotton and Cashmere-Touch styles have their own fibre blends.
The composition section on each product page is the best starting point for identifying these differences. Choose a care product for the specific material and follow its instructions, particularly when more than one material is close together.
Follow the suede guidance on the product page
Our suede-care notes explain that suede develops character with wear and exposure. They recommend a waterproof spray to help protect the material, storage in a dry place and regular brushing to help maintain its softness and texture.
Use a brush and protective product intended for suede, follow the manufacturer's directions and test a discreet area before a wider application. Take care around the braid and buckle so a treatment intended for suede is applied to the relevant finishing pieces.
Understand vegetable-tanned leather
Vegetable tanning refers to the tanning process. As explained in our materials FAQ, the leather is tanned using natural tannins from trees and remains animal leather. Its name describes a material process rather than a cleaning instruction.
Read any model-specific advice and check that a care product is suitable for that leather and its finish. If the label or product information does not make compatibility clear, ask before applying it to the belt.
Give the buckle its own attention
Stainless steel, Zamak, solid brass and black DLC-coated stainless steel appear on different LA BOUCLE models. Check your product's details to identify the finish. Handle the belt carefully around hard surfaces and keep buckle care separate from treatments intended for the leather or suede.
For the story behind one of these finishes, read our Black DLC Buckle article.
Keep the product name to hand
If you have a care question, contact our team with the model name and a description or photograph of the area concerned. This helps us identify the components in your belt and give advice suited to that product.
